I am a middle-aged feminist who loves the English language, and art, and literature. My coworkers call me the "grammar queen" because I either know what's correct or am willing to find out. My spelling is impeccable (my typing is not). My pet peeve is the dumbing-down of the language. I love art, and am in awe of really great art. Rembrandt and Van Gogh leave me breathless, and wanting to put into words what they have done on canvas. My favorite artist is Winslow Homer. My heart is broken by the turn our country has taken under GWB, and I must ignore the news to stay sane. I believe in taking care of the young, the old, the poor, the ill, and the mentally ill. I donate to Christian Children's Fund, the Democratic Party, and the Greater Boston Food Bank. Yet I do not accept that poverty or a tough childhood is a legitimate excuse for bad behavior as an adult. I believe above all in personal responsibility.
